A close-up photograph of a carpenter's hands in a workshop setting. The person is wearing blue and white striped knit work gloves and a dark apron. Their hands are resting on a long, light-colored wooden plank that shows a prominent natural grain. Scattered across the workbench are wood shavings and carpentry tools, including a yellow speed square in the blurred foreground. The background features blurred vertical wooden slats, creating a shallow depth of field that emphasizes the tactile nature of the work. The color palette is dominated by warm wood tones, blues, and whites, evoking a mood of craftsmanship and focused labor.

Transforming your ideas into hand-carved relief art and detailed woodburning.
Custom Projects & Studio Hours

I’m currently taking on new custom wood art projects and personal commissions. To give every piece the focus and precision it deserves, I meet with clients for consultations at my Ferrum studio Monday through Thursday, from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. If you're looking for a nature-inspired relief carving or a soulful woodburned portrait, it's a good idea to start the design process early. This gives us the time we need to make sure your vision comes through clearly in the final work.

OUR SERVICES

Carving Life into Wood in the Blue Ridge Mountains

The Heartwood of My Craft

What started as a hobby has grown into a lifelong practice at Jacq’s Wood Art. Based in Ferrum, Virginia, I work with responsibly sourced timber to create pieces that blend traditional carving with my own personal style. I treat wood as more than just a material; it is a way to tell a story. When I pick up a tool, I am looking for the textures and shapes hidden in the grain, creating something you can feel as much as you can see.

Roots in the Virginia Forest

Inspired by the Blue Ridge

Living in the heart of Virginia means I am always surrounded by the forests and mountains that inspire my work. You will see that connection in everything I make, from realistic wildlife scenes to my detailed forest mandalas. I try to work with the wood rather than against it, following the natural growth rings and imperfections to capture the quiet energy of the outdoors.

Precision and Technique

I am a member of the National Woodcarvers Association and specialize in relief carving and pyrography. I use techniques like undercutting and perspective foreshortening to give my work a real sense of depth and life. Whether I am using a fine craft knife or a refining tool, my goal is always the same: to create elegant designs that show the care and skill that went into making them.

What our customers say

"I asked Jacq to create a relief carving of a leafy sea dragon, and the result is breathtaking. The way she captured the delicate, flowing fins in solid wood is pure artistry. It feels like a piece of the ocean brought to life in the Blue Ridge. I couldn't be happier with the process or the final piece!"

 Sarah M.

"The level of detail in Jacq’s woodburning is incredible. You can see every individual hair in the wolf's fur. It’s clear she has a deep connection to the nature surrounding her studio. This is a centerpiece in my home that everyone asks about. Truly a one-of-a-kind talent."

 James R.

"I commissioned an eagle carving as a retirement gift, and Jacq exceeded every expectation. She worked with me through the initial sketches to make sure the pose was just right. Her communication via text made the whole experience so easy and personal. A master of her craft!"

A detailed close-up of intricate relief wood carvings featuring various floral motifs, including roses and daisy-like flowers, interspersed with leaves. The carving displays high craftsmanship with deep recesses and fine lines in warm, natural wood tones.
